the colour blue often reminds us of the sky and sea, immediately evoking a sense of calm. several psychological studies have demonstrated that blue is a great colour for bedrooms, as the sense of calm can aid sleep. for example, a @travelodge study of 2000 uk homes, found that participants who slept in blue bedrooms had the longest and highest quality sleep, averaging 7 hours and 52 minutes

however, other studies have found the colour blue to aid productivity. for example, in a psychological study on the impact of colour in a university residence hall, costa et al found the colour blue was more likely to produce “studying activity” than other colours

although these findings might seem contradictory, it means blue is a great colour for spaces that are multifunctional, like my study which also doubles up as a guest bedroom: productivity for us, calm for our guests
