there has been an increased and enduring appreciation for the outdoors; from gorpcore fashion trends to the rise of campervan lifestyles and camping holidays. regardless of the motivation - more sustainable, more economic, or the only way to leave home without breaking lockdown guidelines - the benefits of the great outdoors are widely documented in psychology. research consistently demonstrates that spending time in nature:

• improves the quality and quantity of sleep

• reduces stress, anxiety and depression

• improves creativity and problem solving skills 

• increases compassion for others, overall mood and sense of calm

whilst it may not be possible to holiday or live in a cabin or campervan, we can still enjoy some of the benefits of nature from the comfort of our own homes

5 easy ways to incorporate nature in your home:

• decorate your home with natural materials, such as natural wood, cotton and rattan, to mirror the textures found in nature

• incorporate houseplants in every room, as visual reminders of nature

• open curtains/blinds fully, hang mirrors and turn furniture to face windows, to maximise exposure to natural light

• use organic shaped furniture and homeware to mirror the shapes found in nature

• open windows for a minimum of 10mins a day, for exposure to fresh air and sounds of nature
